Gloss level is the main lever
A high-gloss polish is achieved by refining to a very fine grit, which produces a smoother surface with less micro-texture. Satin stops earlier in the progression and retains more traction. In any space with a public entrance we specify satin by default, and the visual difference is far smaller than the safety difference.
Traction guards
A penetrating guard with a traction additive raises the coefficient of friction without adding a visible film or a texture you can feel. It is applied at the end of the polishing process and re-applied during the periodic burnish-and-guard maintenance visit.
The entry matters most
Almost all slip incidents on polished floors happen within a few metres of an entrance, where water arrives on shoes. A generous walk-off matting run does more for safety here than any change to the floor specification, and it protects the finish from grit at the same time.
