What cleaners damage an epoxy floor?

Why acids are the main problem

Acidic cleaners are designed to attack the cement paste in bare concrete, which is exactly what a coating is protecting. On a coated floor they slowly dull and soften the topcoat, and where the film has any thin spot or micro-crack they reach the concrete underneath. Vinegar is the surprising one because it is treated as a harmless household cleaner: at cleaning concentration it is acidic enough to dull a topcoat over repeated use.

Citrus and solvent cleaners

D-limonene, the active ingredient in most citrus degreasers, is a real solvent, and it will soften some polyaspartic and urethane topcoats with sustained contact. Occasional use for a stubborn spot, rinsed off promptly, is not going to ruin a floor. Using it as a routine cleaner will gradually take the gloss off and eventually leave the topcoat soft enough to mark. There are better degreasers that are not solvent based.

What to use instead

For routine cleaning: a dust mop or a soft broom, then warm water with a pH-neutral floor cleaner and a microfibre mop. For oil and grease: a mildly alkaline degreaser diluted per the label, agitated with a deck brush, rinsed thoroughly. For a commercial floor with texture: a rotary scrubber with a soft pad and a neutral cleaner does far more than any product choice, because agitation is what removes soil.

What to do about spills

Most things do no harm at all if wiped up the same day. Brake fluid, battery acid, some paint strippers and pool chemicals are the exceptions worth knowing about: wipe those immediately, flush with water and do not let them sit. A resin floor buys you time rather than immunity, and the whole point of the floor is that a spill is a wipe-up rather than a permanent stain in the concrete.
