Hides dirt

Watch out for

This floor has a dirt-hiding rating of one out of five, and that is not an exaggeration. It shows everything. Specify it where the space is cleaned daily and where appearance is the point of the room.

What it actually is

Carrara is not printed, stencilled or stamped. Pearl-white metallic pigment is poured, then grey and warm grey are worked into it with rollers and solvent so the veining runs the way stone veining runs, continuously and without repeat. The result reads convincingly as a large-format marble slab with no grout lines and no joins, because there are none, and at 700 square feet the cost sits well under what real marble or a large-format porcelain of the same footprint would come to installed.

The maintenance reality

A near-white gloss floor shows dust within a day, footprints within an hour and any dark scuff immediately. None of that harms the floor, and all of it wipes off, but it means the floor looks its best in rooms with a cleaning routine and looks tired in rooms without one. We have installed Carrara in showrooms where it still looks poured after four years, and we have talked homeowners out of it for a mudroom more than once.

Slip resistance in a wet room

Carrara is popular in bathrooms and spa spaces, where a seamless floor with no grout is genuinely the right idea, and in those rooms the anti-slip package is mandatory rather than optional. A gloss metallic under wet bare feet is dangerous. We broadcast a fine aggregate through the topcoat, which knocks the gloss back to a satin and takes the floor from hazardous to safe. The look survives the change well.

Carrara questions

Is a white metallic floor going to yellow?

Not under our build. Yellowing comes from an aromatic epoxy clear exposed to UV, and every decorative floor we install is topcoated in UV-stable polyaspartic. That is exactly why we can put a white floor in a glazed room. A white floor built with a standard epoxy clear coat would visibly amber within two Okanagan summers.

Can Carrara handle a commercial entry?

Yes, with satin topcoat, anti-slip and about three metres of walk-off matting inside the door. The matting matters more than the specification: grit tracked in from outside is what abrades any floor, and stopping it at the entry does more for a light floor than any product upgrade available.

We bring physical samples to every site visit and lay them on your own floor under your own lighting, which tells you far more than any screen can.
