Metallic epoxy is the finish people photograph. Reflective pigment suspended in clear resin, then moved by hand with rollers, leaf blowers and solvent until it separates into depth, veining and movement that reads more like polished stone than a floor coating. It is the most artistic thing we install, and the least reproducible.

How the Effect Is Actually Made
A solid pigmented base coat goes down first so no concrete shows through. Then a clear epoxy loaded with metallic pigment is poured and spread. While it is still open, we move it, squeegee passes for direction, a leaf blower for cells and craters, denatured alcohol for the fine veining. The resin keeps reacting for another twenty minutes after we stop, and that self-levelling is what gives the finished floor its depth.
Choosing a Colour Direction
Metallic pigments are usually run as a two- or three-colour blend: a dominant, a contrast and sometimes a highlight. Charcoal with pearl reads modern and hides dust. Copper and bronze warm up a basement. Blues and teals photograph beautifully but show every footprint. We do a sample board on your actual slab before we commit the floor.
Where Metallic Belongs, and Where It Does Not
Metallic is a visual product. It belongs where people look at the floor: showrooms, basements, entries, collector garages. It is a poor fit for working shops, commercial kitchens and warehouses, where a flake or quartz broadcast will outperform it and cost less. We will talk you out of metallic if the room does not deserve it.
Maintenance and Longevity
Under two coats of polyaspartic, a metallic floor takes normal traffic for 15-20 years. Because the effect lives in a clear layer, deep scratches show more than they would in flake. Felt pads under furniture, a walk-off mat at the door and a re-coat at the ten-year mark keeps it looking new. Re-coating is a one-day job and does not disturb the pattern underneath.

How much does a metallic epoxy floor cost in Kelowna?
Metallic epoxy runs $12-$18 per square foot installed in Kelowna, versus $8-$12 for a standard flake system. The premium is labour, not material: the metallic layer is hand-worked and cannot be rushed, and the floor needs a skim-coated substrate so nothing telegraphs through the clear resin.
Is every metallic epoxy floor unique?
Yes. The pattern comes from how the resin moves while it is curing, so it cannot be repeated exactly, not even by the same installer in the same room on the same day. We do a sample board on your slab first so you can approve the colour blend and general character before we pour the floor.
Is metallic epoxy slippery?
A high-gloss metallic floor is slippery when wet, so we add a fine aluminum oxide or polymer grit to the final topcoat anywhere that matters, entries, garages, anywhere shoes come in wet. It knocks the gloss back slightly and is worth it.
Can metallic epoxy go over a garage floor?
Yes, and it looks incredible in a collector garage. Be realistic about use: metallic shows tire marks and scratches more than flake, so if the garage is also the workshop, we would steer you to flake with a metallic feature area instead.
