How much does epoxy flooring cost per square foot?

What sits at each end of the range

The bottom of the range is a solid or flake system on a clean, sound, uncoated slab in a space large enough to spread the mobilisation cost. The top is a metallic or quartz build on a damaged slab that needs removal, repair and moisture mitigation before anything decorative goes down. Two identical-looking garages can be $1,500 apart entirely because of what is under the coating.

Why square footage changes the rate

Mobilising a crew, a truck, grinders, extractors and product costs roughly the same for 200 square feet as for 2,000. On a small floor that fixed cost spreads across very little area, so a single garage prices at $9-$12 per square foot while a 1,500 square foot shop prices at $7-$9 for the identical system.

What a real quote covers

Diamond grinding the slab to a measured profile, chasing and filling cracks with rigid polyurea, rebuilding spalled areas, a 100% solids epoxy base coat, flake or quartz broadcast to full rejection, and two coats of UV-stable polyaspartic. If a quote is meaningfully below the range, the useful question is which of those six steps is missing.

The number to compare on

Per-square-foot price alone is not comparable between contractors, because it describes an outcome rather than a specification. Ask for the total film thickness in mils, the surface preparation method, and whether the broadcast is full or partial. Those three answers make two quotes genuinely comparable in a way the headline rate never does.
