Two days for a standard garage, one day if you go full polyaspartic. The cure schedule matters more than the install schedule.
Standard Flake System. Two Days
Day one is diamond grinding, crack and spall repair, vacuuming, and the pigmented epoxy base coat with flake broadcast to rejection. The floor cures overnight. Day two is scraping the excess flake, vacuuming, and two coats of polyaspartic with an hour or two between them. Most residential garages fit this schedule regardless of size, up to about 1,000 sq ft.
One-Day Polyaspartic. Single Visit
Because polyaspartic recoats in one to two hours instead of overnight, the whole build fits in a day: grind in the morning, base and broadcast by midday, topcoat in the afternoon. Walk on it that evening, park on it 24 hours later. It costs about $2-$3 per square foot more, and for anyone who cannot lose the garage for three days it is the obvious choice.
Metallic. Three Days
Metallic needs an extra day because the substrate has to be skim-coated flat first, anything left underneath telegraphs through the clear resin layer. Day one is grinding and skim coat, day two is the pigmented base and the metallic pour, day three is topcoats. The metallic layer itself also cannot be rushed; the effect comes from working the resin while it is open.
Quartz and Commercial Systems. Three to Five Days
A double-broadcast quartz floor needs two full broadcast passes with a cure between them, plus coving and drain detailing. Three days is typical for a kitchen, four to five for a larger commercial floor with zoning. Where the space cannot close, we phase by zone and the calendar duration stretches while the space stays operational.
Polished Concrete. Three to Five Days
Polishing is a grinding progression, so duration scales with area and with how many steps the finish needs. A seven-to-nine step polish on 2,000 sq ft is roughly four days including densifier dwell time. There is no cure period at the end, once the last pass and the guard are done, the floor is in service.
Cure Times Are Not Negotiable
The install schedule is ours to manage; the cure schedule is chemistry. Walking on a coating early leaves footprints that cannot be buffed out. Parking early causes hot tire pickup on a floor that has not finished cross-linking. Putting a fridge or a heavy toolbox on a floor at 24 hours dents it. The 72-hour rule for vehicles exists because floors that ignore it fail, and that failure is not a warranty item.
